What's the difference between 2:1 & 3:1 pitches?

3:1 Binding Wire (three to one) means that the wires thread through 3 holes per inch of a document with 34 loops down the long side of an A4 sheet. The looped wire is spaced more closely than the 2:1 pitch giving the wires a tighter look.

2:1 Binding Wire (two to one) means that the wires thread through 2 holes per inch of a document with 23 loops down the long side of an A4 sheet. If your book is thicker than 14.3mm, you will need a thicker wire to carry the extra weight of the sheets, and this is when a 2:1 pitch wire is preferable.
